Bubble has represented the fulfillment of a longtime dream that started with an 8-year old girl's wish to import beautiful women's garments to her hometown of Portland from cosmopolitan cities in Europe & North America. Thank you to all our loyal customers, friends, and fans for supporting and being part of the actualization of this dream.

Getting to know so many of you personally and helping wardrobe you for interviews, careers, weddings, dream vacations, and the sparkliest of date nights has truly been the most fulfilling matchmaking experience imaginable. You have graced and gifted the shop with your beauty, charm, and charisma -- breathing life, love and warmth into this festive space.

Yes, it has been a minute since our last post, please forgive us dear friends. We feel that planning our annual Holiday Fashion Show event is however quite the excuse and we hope you agree. We like to think of ourselves as the go-to Portland shop for your party frock needs and therefore felt that we owed it to you to feature our glittzy garb in a fun and festive Holiday event. Since we Bubble girls don't believe in doing anything half-heartedly, we felt the need to make this into an über-glam catwalk affair to bring on the Holiday spirit, and most of all, inspire you to get gussied up!!!

We've had our eye on talented LA designer Heidi Merrick for quite some time, and have been very excited about introducing her to Portland come Spring 11'. While thumbing through the pages of her Holiday wares, visions of fashionable sugarplumb fairies began dancing in our heads and we knew we had to bring you a little sneak peek. Her gold sequined tops, mini skirts and leggings reminded us of the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown and retro Hollywood divas, and our event was born. Heidi's show-stopping looks, complimented by fellow LA-based collections Myne & Aaron Ashe, became a match made in fashion heaven. Here is a look into our show. We hope you enjoy and get inspired to up the ante for the Holidays! Like it or not, the Holidays are right around the corner. Christmas decor is popping up left and right, Starbucks holiday cups are in hand and there is talk of possible arctic blasts coming our way. To me this all means one thing; it's time to start weighing my holiday dress options. I may not be a fan of the chillier weather, but I always welcome these days of eating, drinking, being merry with my family and friends, and the numerous excuses to get all gussied up. There is something magical about getting dressed in sequins and faux fur and freezing your butt off as you hop from one holiday party to the next, drinking eggnog and singing Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas" at the top of your lungs. Tis the season right?

A serious contender for one of my many fête frocks this season is the Nuj Novakhett strapless mini dress. I love the exaggerated petal hips, back cut-out and mini length. I truly adore everything by this native Thai designer, a new addition to Bubble this Fall. Her silhouettes are feminine yet innovative, and each piece is sophisticated with a hint of whimsical fun. We've been seriously obsessing over our newest Fall shipment from French line Le Phare de la Baleine since its arrival last week. The chunky, coastal cable-knits, seamless v-neck cashmeres striped in marine blue and heather gray, chocolaty turtleneck ponchos, delectable double-breasted and bubble hemmed coats & cozy knit scarfs and hats have been haunting our fashion dreams! We felt that these fab French clothes were deserving of a photo shoot for the website and assembled the Bubble team to make it happen! We scheduled the project for yesterday, and although we were cringing at the weather report all weekend long, we pushed forward and worked around the rain and blustery winds. We're working on the photos and can't wait to share our new Fall lookbook with you! Here are some behind the scenes photos to tide you over...

Portland Fashion Week- Part 3

Bubble Boutique girls are always ready to talk fashion, play dress up and have a good time. We'd be lying however, if we said that we weren't a little delighted when Sunday arrived and we could see the end of fashion week drawing to a close. While we were sad to see such a good thing come to an end, our fluffy beds, pedicures, and take-out menus were finally within reach. Luckily, Sunday night's show was packed full of collections we were dying to see.

Established American heritage brand, and iconic Oregon native Pendleton and their younger, edgier counterpart: Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony, was among the list of collections I was eager to view. We've depended on Pendleton for over 100 years for their classic woven wonders, iconic plaids and jacquard patterns, but never really thought of them as a fashion pioneer. Pendleton's unexpectedly hot affair with the young hip label Opening Ceremony has rejuvenated the brand with trendy pieces that style gurus everywhere are swooning over. This buzz-worthy collaboration has graced the cover of magazines like WWD and it was an unbelievable thrill to have it walking the Portland runway.

Eco-friendly Parisian fashion house Ethos Paris brought us the accessible, effortless & always polished feel that we count on from our Parisian friends across the Pond. The French have a certain 'joie de vivre' that we are always aiming to live at Bubble. We'll be bringing you a bit more of this joie via Ethos Paris come Spring'11! Oui, c'est vrai! – in a few short months you'll be able to pluck these French frocks right off the Bubble racks! Innately feminine and impeccably constructed, these dresses make it so easy to be chic. We don't have pics of all of the pieces that will be in store, but stay tuned for updates!

Another favorite of the night was Souchi, a luxe knitwear line that we are proud to call a local collection. Designer Suzi Johnson blew us away with a mix of muted neutrals and colorful stripes in the form of ultra-comfy and sexy designs that left us dreaming of tromping around the house (or a Mediterranean villa..) in knit undies, bras and turbans.

Colombian designer Amelia Toro rounded out the evening with a mesmerizing collection dedicated to the heritage and tradition of Hispanic culture. Toro used a technique called the 'mola' which involves hand-sewn quilting and layering of fabric. Impeccably coiffed models were sent gliding down the runway in intricately crafted dresses with brightly hued panels of hand-embroidered animal prints and geometric shapes. Unexpected accents of lace and sheerness lended a lightness to the weight of such heavily embroidered garments. The result was a richly balanced look, both edgy and girly. What I wouldn't do to get my hands on that ivory dress or that beaded bag!

Portland Fashion Week- Part 2

With three full days of Fashion Week under our belt, by Saturday we were starting to drag. With all the excitement around Seth Aaron and the other 3 Project Runway alums showing that night, we knew we had to "make it work." We rose to the occasion with venti lattés in hand, threw on our favorite new Nuj Novakhett dresses and shoved our throbbing feet into our 4-inch pumps. As we expected, the show did not disappoint. All of the Project Runway designers know how to put on a show, and the Shipyard was packed to the brim with fashion aficionados from far and wide.

Jonathan Joseph Peter's Collection was my favorite from the night. When I spoke to him at the wholesale market he told me that he wanted his collection to have a sense of humor, so he added these gorgeous bold prints at the last minute to lighten it up. JJP's looks were very on trend as the fashion tide is turning toward more classic & chic, ladylike silhouettes. The full circle skirt, high-waisted trousers, and cropped jackets add balance and sophistication to the bold prints, accessories and sequins.

Jay Sario was as amazing as we'd expected. I love how he balances the masculine and the feminine by using heavier fabrics and metallic hardwear to toughen up the plunging necklines and flowing gowns. And those knee-high leather spats...I almost pulled them off the model backstage and ran out the back door. Soooo hot! Jay brings out my bad girl side and makes me want to hop on the back of my boyfriend's motorcycle.

And of course there was the much anticipated Seth Aaron Solar World collection. Not RTW by any means, but boy was it a good show. Shiny pleather, exaggerated silhouettes, surrealist masks, and metallic gowns. Über futuristic and fierce!

Portland Fashion Week- Part 1

Portland Fashion Week has come and gone once again. Since Bubble is the go-to shop for flirty party frocks in Portland, we Bubble girls had to represent. We partied it up and rubbed elbows with Portland's most fabulous fashionistas, dancing the night away at an after party or two (or five). But it wasn't all fun and games – we worked hard too. I was the behind-the-scenes stylist, and head of the Buyer Relations committee with our amazing Bubble gal Susan by my side. Jessica sat on the Emerging Designer Judges Panel with Project Runway winner Seth Aaron and other local fashion experts, while our lovely ladies Josie and Donilee sat VIP, dressed in Bubble frocks of course, weighing in on what they would like to see gracing the racks of Bubble come Spring '11. We were beyond impressed with the designers that showed their collections on the solar panel runway and are so excited about bringing some of them to you via Bubble next season. Sorry to post a little late but we've been recovering from all the hard work and fun that was had! Here are some highlights from Thursday & Friday night...

Models at the Christian Dior Fall 2010 Couture show strutted down the Parisian runway plastic- wrapped and raffia-tied. Yes that's right, Galliano took his floral inspiration further than the vibrant colors of the iris and pansy like gowns overflowing with domes of tulle overlaid with gloriously colored swags of organza. Plastic-wrap head pieces and raffia-tied belts furthered the feel that the models were fresh flowers wrapped up by the local florist. Every girl loves receiving flowers but one of these bouquets would be an extra special treat!

Erin was inspired by French film L'Amant, (or The Lover) a period-piece set in Indochina in the '20s, for this collection. We love Parisian chic and this collection has that written all over it. Sitting in our frock shop, chock full of gorgeous maritime print James Coviello dresses & casually chic 0039 Italy sun dresses and beach cover-ups, has had us here at Bubble dreaming of sipping champagne on a yacht on the Côte d'Azur.

Looking through the images of the models traipsing down the runway from Chanel's 2011 Resort collection which took place in St. Tropez, has only heightened my urge for a French Riviera holiday. The flowy, sheer, 70's style, caftans and bare feet leave me wishing I was strolling along the pebble beaches staring out at the sun setting over the Mediterranean Sea.

I may not make it to the Mediterranean as soon as I'd like but I do plan on channeling a Retro Riviera, Brigitte Bardot look this summer. I'm going for my favorite James Coviello Rope Print Dress with some oversized shades and a sun hat... and some champagne.

We like to think we're pretty crafty over here at Bubble Boutique (we even have a Martha Stewart craft trolley for all of the display craft projects that we get really, really obsessed with). Yes, we love dresses and we have made quite a lot of origami tulips and tissue paper flowers for our Spring window displays, but I think this is where we draw the line.

Posada's Origami Paper garments just look like a really painful paper cut waiting to happen. Plus, as we all know, it rains in Portland and I can't see a paper dress and rain mixing well.

Happy Friday! I found these images of Viktor and Rolf's surrealist gowns from the Spring 2010 Runway show and couldn't help myself. Are they impractical? Yes. Are they awesome?? Hell Yes!
